Story Sanctuary Creative

Hello, I'm Patricia

I am Patricia Bumpass, a bestselling author, creative entrepreneur, and your storytelling guide.

I write sweet, clean romance and cozy mysteries under the name P. A. Bumpass. I also write nonfiction, devotionals, journals, and creative resources designed to help people recognize the meaningful stories found in everyday life.

Patricia Bumpass

Long before I thought of myself as a writer, I filled journals with thoughts, questions, observations, prayers, and pieces of my life.

Writing helped me make sense of what I experienced. It helped me remember and imagine. It gave me a place to be honest about what I felt and curious about what might come next.

Over time, those journal pages became articles, books, fictional characters, devotionals, workshops, and ideas I could share with others.

A LIFE IN STORY

When Writing Takes Me Somewhere Else

Writing has always had a way of drawing me completely into another world. Years ago, when my desk was in the front of my living room, my sister sometimes had to toss crumpled paper, paper clips, or napkins onto my desk to get my attention. She could talk to me for several minutes without receiving a response because I was so deeply immersed in a story that I did not hear her.

Whenever someone said they had called or spoken to me and I had not answered, her first question was usually, “Was she writing?”

She knew that when I entered the flow of a story, the rest of the world could disappear.

WHERE STORIES BEGIN

Stories Rarely Arrive Fully Formed

But my stories rarely arrived fully formed.

They usually began with something small.

A memory.
A question.
A conversation.
A place.
A feeling I could not quite explain.
A moment that stayed with me.

I began to understand that story ideas are not as rare as we sometimes believe. They are tucked inside ordinary life, waiting for us to pay attention.

There is power and transformation in story.

Every Story Has a Place Here

I believe stories have the power to encourage us, connect us, preserve what matters, and help us see our lives with greater clarity.

A story can help someone feel seen. It can give language to an experience another person has struggled to explain. It can preserve a memory, deepen faith, inspire hope, or remind us that we are not alone.

A story does not have to be dramatic to be meaningful. Some of the most powerful stories begin in the quiet moments we might otherwise overlook.

WHY A SANCTUARY?

A Place to Breathe

The word sanctuary suggests safety, rest, belonging, and room to breathe.

That is what I want Story Sanctuary Creative to offer.

Creativity can feel vulnerable. Sharing a story often requires us to trust an idea before we fully understand it. We may question whether our experiences matter, whether we are creative enough, or whether anyone needs what we have to say.

This is a place to step away from some of that pressure.

You do not have to arrive with a polished manuscript, a detailed outline, or a perfect plan.

You may arrive with a memory, a question, a half-formed idea, or the simple sense that there is something within you waiting to be explored.

That is enough for a beginning.
MY ROLE

My Role as Your Storytelling Guide

I am not here to tell you there is only one correct way to create a story.

I am here to help you notice what is already present.

I help people recognize the stories hidden within their lives, experiences, memories, relationships, and everyday moments. From there, I offer encouragement, thoughtful questions, practical resources, and flexible guidance to help those ideas take shape.

Your story may become a novel, memoir, devotional, family history, workshop, journal, article, speech, social post, or something you have not yet imagined.

The form matters, but it does not have to come first.

We begin by listening for the heart of the story.
